Pediatric dentistry.

At the office of Dr. Jacob Myers, D.D.S., we understand how necessary it is for you to trust your pediatric dentist. We’re proud to provide our patients with not only top quality pediatric dental treatments, but also an understanding of basic dentistry in order to make them more interested and comfortable in coming to the dentist. Here are some facts to know about your child’s teeth, and your own teeth as well!

  1. Primary (baby) teeth are the first teeth that will appear in your mouth. These teeth start to erupt around the ages of six to eight months.
  2. By the time you’re three years old, all 20 primary teeth will be in place.
  3. Permanent teeth will start to grow in at around the age of six.
  4. With the exception of your wisdom teeth, all permanent teeth should be in place sometime between the ages of 12 and 14.
  5. The total number of permanent teeth is 32.
  6. Eight of these teeth are your front teeth. There should be four on the top and four on the bottom, and they’re called incisors.
  7. Next to the incisors are the four sharp teeth. These are called the canines.
  8. The next eight teeth are somewhere in the middle of your mouth. These are referred to as bicuspids or premolars.
  9. The final 12 teeth are in the very back of your mouth. These are called molars.
